Busy time for repotting

Late Winter and early Spring is traditionally the best time to repot most types of trees. Younger trees need to be repotted every two years but larger trees in good health can be repotted every four years.
Repotting is a good opportunity to examine the health of the roots and general condition of the tree - and the pot! By introducing fresh inorganic and well draining material, the health of the trees can be significantly improved.
This has been a very busy time for Streamside trees. The majority of my own trees have needed repotting and are now looking so much healthier.
I am also looking after some specimen trees for some customers, and with some help have now repotted some very large, old beautiful bonsai which have presented challenges as they had been left for a long time in the same pot. But I am pleased to say that they are now budding well and should put on a better healthier look this Summer. It was a privilege to work on these two trident maples - one of which was a root-over-rock style, a larch, Chinese elm and beech.
I also held a 'Bring your own bonsai' repotting workshop and helped a guest with their beautiful bird plum bonsai - a species which is new to me.
